Oil Field
The setup: You've got the drilling rights to a large land area,
the equipment to drill 10 wells, and a $1,000,000 bank loan. Before
you can drill on any plot of land, you'll need to pay $10,000 for a
Geological Report. This report will indicate whether there might be
Oil or Natural Gas at Shallow, Medium or Deep depth. When you
decide to drill, Shallow wells are the least likely to be dry, but
Deep wells (when they aren't dry) are most likely to make you very
wealthy. You play the game until you have drilled 10 wells, or you
have gone broke. If you make it to the end of the game, your final
holdings are determined by taking your cash on hand, subtracting out
your bank loan plus interest, and adding the current value (roughly
30 percent) of your estimated reserves.

Installation
Please consult INSTALL.BOI and COMMANDS.BOI for basic installation
help. Please also note the following information:
Files
OILFIELD.INS (and OILFIELD.KEY if you've registered) belong in
the same directory as OILFIELD.EXE.
Command Line Options
All commands are listed in COMMANDS.BOI. Installation examples
can be found in INSTALL.BOI. Oil Field supports all command
switches available in the BBS Onliner Interface.
Registration and Trial Period
Oil Field is ShareWare. It is totally uncrippled. There are no
bells or whistles, or time delays, or time bombs, or limited
functions. You have the whole works. You are allowed to try
Oil Field online for up to two (2) months. At that point you
should either take the game offline, or register it. The current
registration fee is ten United States dollars ($10US). When you
register, you will be sent a registration key that will work on all
future releases of Oil Field. Please consult REGISTER.BOI for
further details about registering this and other BOI doors.
What the files are
file what it is and where it lives
OILFIELD.EXE This is Oil Field
OILFIELD.INS This is the instruction file that Oil Field will
display to users. I ask that anyone interested in
translating this into other languages to contact me
personally. A near future release of Oil Field and my
other doors will also allow for all text WITHIN the
game to be translated as well. This file belongs in
the same directory as OILFIELD.EXE
OILFIELD.INS This is the registration key file. This file (if you
have it) belongs in the same directory as OILFIELD.EXE
OILFBBS.HOF This is the Hall Of Fame data file. The game will
create and maintain this file in the same directory as
OILFIELD.EXE. If you wish to reset the Hall Of Fame,
you can delete this file.
OILHOF.TXT This is the text Hall Of Fame. This file is designed
as a user bulletin. By default it is created in the
same directory as OILFIELD.EXE, but it can be moved
and/or renamed by use of the /Y command line option
(see COMMANDS.BOI). This file displays the all time
high score, the three best from the previous month,
and the current month's top ten.
BOIERR.LOG The BBS Onliner Interface maintains this log file for
diagnostic reasons.
